A Hug in a Mug: Colombia Nariño Pasto

The start of the new year is often filled with excitement for great things yet to come and a hope that life will be better than the previous year. “New year, new me!” is a phrase we have become all too familiar with, whether it has become a personal mantra or something to laugh at when we see it used in a meme that pokes fun of how we are still the same people past the stroke of midnight. I know a handful of people who have said that 2020 was the worst possible year, and even though it has forced them to start bringing attention to what really matters, they can’t wait to put it behind them.

While 2020 has certainly been one of the most challenging years I’ve had, I’m hesitant to call it the worst—partially because I’m afraid that the universe will test me and show me what “the worst” really is, and partially because I’m still standing even after being tossed around in a rock tumbler and taken out before I became a shiny, polished stone. I’ve had some edges smoothed out, but I’m still very much a rock. And you know, I actually don’t mind it so much. Afterall, any day is a good day if you set the bar low enough, and here I am still getting up every morning. Some days I celebrate for not needing to hit the snooze button 3 times. On those mornings, I usually need less of a push and more of something that just keeps me going about my normal routine. For the days that I simply need something to help keep my feet on the ground, I’ll be drinking the Colombia Nariño Pasto.

Colombia is the third largest coffee producing country in the world behind Brazil and Vietnam,  and it is widely known for producing coffees that are sweet and medium bodied with a balanced acidity. The Colombia Nariño Pasto fits this classic flavor profile and has notes of tangelo, candied cashew, and chocolate ganache. When we were in the process of evaluating coffees on the cupping table, we kept coming back to this one because of how comforting it is.

We started 2021 by launching a coffee with a more complex flavor profile as a way to help keep us excited and looking forward. Now, for the days we need a hug in a mug, we have the Colombia Nariño Pasto.
