Do you have some really old leftover coffee beans laying around that you don’t want to put to waste? Try making a coffee rub! This is a simple rub that’s versatile and will pair well with a variety of sauces.
Five spice and Sichuan peppercorn are incorporated into this mix to complement the coffee flavor. Sichuan peppercorn is known for its numbing effects, but toasting it before grinding it will highlight more woody flavors.
You can use any type of coffee bean for this rub, but I would caution against using a natural or honey processed coffee because of their tendency to have super fruity flavor notes!
