Although Laos is relatively new to specialty coffee, its coffee-growing history dates back approximately 100 years, to when French colonists cultivated arabica, robusta, and liberia trees. The growth of the coffee industry seemed promising, but it essentially failed due to leaf rust and the start of World War I and II.
